Help Identifying Motorola Item

Picked up a total of three of these today at my local thrift. big whopping 10 for all three. Only took a pic of one though. Tried doing research at the store but couldn't come across anything similar. Im not sure on what it's used for or what the needle part is. Thank you for any info!

 

intercom - one word

 

Looks like an intercom, commercial communications or PA (Public address) type system. VU meter shows the audio level and will bounce around (while you try to keep it in about the middle) so amplified sound doesn't doesn't distort as you speak. You should be able to google the Model Number- Motorola was very big in this kind of item.
