    Hi all,

Two years ago I purchased this cabinet on craigslist and was told its from the 1850's. At the time they did tell me what the style or era it was from was called but I cannot remember. I'm not a collector or anything, this piece just spoke to me for the space I needed it for. Can you all help me further identify the time period/style associated with this?

Photos are very dark, hard to see much but looks like late Classical from here, sometimes referred to as empire revival. I'd guess 1850s-1880s, is it painted or veneer?

Thanks, I can take more photos later and post them. Its definitely veneer. The photo where its darker was after I oiled it when I got it.

OK, then it's probably mahogany veneer. If you post more pics, hit the full image button so everyone can see it better. :)

I agree, definitely American (?) Empire style, fairly early in the roster of Victorian furniture styles , which became increasingly embellished towards the last quarter of the 19th century, with the advances in manufacturing techniques. I would hang onto what might be the original glass pulls, in order to retain the eventual re-sale value.
