I picked this table up a while back and was planning a full stripe and refinish. It's oak. Gateleg with butterfly leaf that pops out of the middle.

I the leaf mechanism has a patent number (pat num 47683). I am interested in understanding the age, maker, and value of piece. Also worried that I shouldn't have stripped but it was so loaded with wax and stain I couldn't ID wood.

    Thanks in advance!

Id guess 1920s-30s . Not terribly valuable but looks to be a good sturdy piece.

I wonder if you can search the patent records division?

Yep, finding the patent will tell you the earliest possible date for the table.

My cousin works for the us patent office. She could not find it. So I'm thinking England or Canada. Haven't been able to find yet.
