It is a drop leaf table printed or stenciled on the underside of the table:
    1929. M.
    LEX. CHAIR. CO.
    2/57

    Handwritten: a large “69”
    Printed or stenciled: 2 - 8

I thought that the "1929" was a model number rather than a date and that the M was for "mahogany." LEX CHAIR CO refers to Lexington Chair Company which the internet tells me is in High Point, North Carolina (USA). Is 2/57 a manufacturing date: February 1957? Am I correct or incorrect with these assumptions? I have no idea what the 69 and 2 - 8 mean. Thank you for your help.

The table is 38 x 26 ½ inches with leaves down and 56 x 38 inches with leaves up.

Think you have this right. The 69 is probably an inspector's mark. The 2-8 is maybe a factory designation (Something like the second of 8 tops made in the run.)

This is an extension table, do you have any leaves? The 2-8 could also indicate max expansion of 8 leaves (just a guess), but looks like it would pull out quite a distance.

Yes, we have two extensions, each 18 X 38 inches, so it extends to 92 inches. That makes it versatile. My parents bought it used when they moved into a house with a small DR that would not fit their 19th century refectory table, but it could be expanded when family visited. Practical, but it has no sentimental value, unlike their antiques. (One table & chairs goes back 7 generations--counting my son & nephew, 8 with my grand-niece.) So we intend to sell this table, and I want to be accurate in my listing.

I liked your idea of 8 extensions so well that I pulled out the table as far as it would go, but the space between would fit only the two existing extensions.

Thanks very much. I see another for sale on ebay saying that the model number is the date. I wanted to be accurate.

I think the 2/57 is the date.

I think so too, but I was not sure. Thanks for the confirmation!
