My sister and I have been gifted a china? Tea cup and saucer. Our Aunt left it to us. Her story suggests it was part of a tea set owned by the Downing family in Uk circa 1764. Can anyone help us identify its origins?

    Hi Monty and welcome!

The style would be consistent with the 18th C. The next question is whether it's porcelain or some type of earthenware such as pearlware. Not exactly easy to tell from the photos but I'm thinking porcelain.

There are others that will probably be more helpful but I did want to show you this as a possibility.

This is from the book Worcester Blue & White Porcelain 1751-1790 by Branyan, French & Sandon.

If you read through you'll find that it mentions other companies making similar designs.
