    Hello gang :shame:

I bought this lot (I say "this lot" as I plan to post 2 more threads with different type of artwork from the same lot :woot:) of artwork and pulled out some of the more interesting pieces I would like to find out more about.

So any help will be greatly appreciated :joyful:

Also I hope you will enjoy them (I did my best with the photos) as I enjoy them very much!

    Here is the first one:

The first one is a sketched portrait done by a local artist. Unlikely you'll be able to identify. Second one is obviously older and looks like a print. Is it? Both appear to be German in origin.

Thank you, the second one (the one you say you think is older) is done by hand 100%

If the name of the last one was Schwartze instead of Schwarz, it could be after a work of the Dutch artist Thérèse Schwartze.
This is one of her paintings:

Btw, I agree and I also thin that they are of German origin Debora. :)

Well, the first one is dated and contemporary. The second one depicts a Victorian woman. Could be period or a copy. Given the technique used, think period.

The fact that the date is written with the day then month and year usually indicates Europe.

Similar, but not the same. No t, and no curl to the z.
I am not sure the name on the back is a signature, it looks like someone just added it as a reminder or as a possible artist.
So it may not be the artist's name, or his/her name was pronounced Schwarz but written differently, like Schwartz or even Schwartze.

I think the second one is a mezzotint.

It's very common for intaglio prints to incorporate more than one technique, so yes, there looks to be a lot of drypoint there as well. A toss-up as to which term you'd like to use to describe it.
