    Hello,

I recently bought a very nice wooden candle box. I wonder if anyone could please help estimating a date that this was made and also the wood type (photos below). Any thoughts on country of origin too? It was bought in the UK.

Any details would be much appreciated!

As above, pretty generic so hard to say. My gut reaction says late 19th century but could be newer or older by 50 years or so.

It does have "snipe" or cotter pin type hinges but the photographs are so poor quality it's hard to make out much else.

Yeah, barely being the key word there!:hilarious:
I would add that in USA, that style of hinge was used until the late 17th early 18th century.
Not saying the box is that old, really can't say much about this box with these photos

Well, there is no carving or any type of decoration, no lock or place where lock used to be either that i can tell.
Where are you located & where did you get your box?
Better photos would help as well.

Agreed, candle boxes tend to be rectangular in shape and not square as this box is.

Interesting info about the hinges. The photos are from the listing that I bought it from online. I've attached a couple more. It was bought within the UK.
