hi there I was wondering if someone can help me. I was looking to buy this sligh writing desk it’s listed as antique Frech provincial Queen Anne style. I want it for my new therapy office I’m opening. But I don’t know if the price they are asking is to high because I don’t know if this is a newer recreation or if the stamp can help date the piece? I am new to this and any help identifying how old it might be would be great. I’m just a consumer wanting to make sure I am not being taken advantage of since I’m not versed in antiques. I saw someone said @verybrad was very knowledgeable

Hi Shirley and WELCOME to ANTIQUERS!! I'm posting your images FULL SIZE which you should do in future postings!! Just hit the very TOP image that says FULL SIZE! And then I'm going to 'tag' @verybrad!
MY thoughts are that someone gave that desk a coat of that bright blue paint, which you may or may not like, but Brad will give you more info on the desk itself!! AND, here are two links to some history on the furniture itself, but I think the second one goes to the present:

Also found a link that looks pretty identical to yours with an asking price, so you can at least check it out..........remember....it's "ASKING"!!!

Oh thank you I had no clue what I was doing so I really appreciate your help! Is it possible to post the first pic where it shows the stamp? I honestly don’t know how to do that? I think I just figured it out but can you tell me if I did it right and you see the full size now on the stamp?

Looks like this model 4194 desk as pictured in a Sligh catalog from 1970. The mid century and campaign style desks by Sligh can sell in the $1,000-$2,000 range on sites like Chairish (and more like $500-$1000 at auctions). Their traditional styles, like French Country or French Provincial, as I think this desk would be described, sell for less. In original condition, probably $150-$250. sligh4194.jpg

Late to the party, as others have pretty much answered your questions. The paint is not original but doesn't necessarily devalue this. It is just used furniture at this point and value is what someone is willing to pay for their personal use. Value is also dependent on where and how being sold. In my Midwest neck of the woods, this would be under $200.00 at retail. You might see it priced higher or lower in other locations. At auction, this would bring less than $50.00.
