Hello everyone. I'm back with a piece I've had stashed away for some time. It is a 10 1/2" square of 1/4" thick glass with the face of a woman impressed into it. The last photo is of the "back" of the piece. I can not find a signature or any mark that might identify the artist or give any information about it. I feel like this image is somehow familiar but that could just be some half-memory buried in the deep recesses of my mind. Please educate me.

    Thanks, Linda 20240603_190948.jpg 20240603_190959.jpg 20240603_191023.jpg

She looks like maybe a he. Possibly African. This had to have been part of something special, like maybe the Normandie . Wouldnt that be fun ? Pure Art Deco ,love it .

I don't think she is meant to be African, with that hair. Possibly Polynesian?

Thanks for all your thoughts. Now tell me search terms so I can find something, anything in the same ballpark to figure a price for her. "Architectural Glass" Glass silhouette? I'm at a loss here, floundering. No surprise but, shucks!

By cutting and pasting my photo into Google lens on my computer I was finally able to see things that, while not the same, were at least somewhat similar to my piece. Most of the things shown were Lalique, a glass slab by Lauro Louis for an exhibit, Steuben, Biedermeier and of course Lucite and other things not glass. I am still at ground zero although I do have a few new terms: slab, sculptural, silhouette. @Ownedbybear I wouldn't call it a brick as it is only ¼" thick. Looking at the facial characteristics I see elements of African, indigenous Mexican, or Central or South American. I'm just spinning my wheels here, kind of hoping for some inspiration.

Hope you all had a great day today!

You are probably thinking of 'Ta Matete', which is partly inspired by a Javanese temple frieze, and part by Egyptian paintings.;) Hence the stylised, statuesque look of the women.

Hello my friends. Had to revisit this thread as I'm going to try to describe this appropriately and come up with a price for it. "Art Deco Unsigned Woman's Face in Glass"? Help me polish this up and how the heck can I price it? Searching art deco woman face on ebay gave me Lalique and Daum but while this is beautiful it's nowhere near that quality work.

Thanks for any inspiration you can share.
