Not sure what section to post this, so please tell me if I need to move it.

I have recently purchased an Ice bucket. It is wooden with silver plate handles, decoration and ball feet and a ceramic inside. ice 1.jpg ice 2.jpg ice 3.jpg I have found that the maker was William Hutton and Son and it seems that dates it between 1864 and 1870. Is that correct? I can not find this specific piece anywhere so i really appreciate any other information. Thanks

Not sure if you can still edit, but change the title to be more descriptive. Maybe something like: "Help needed with silver markings on ice bucket".

Many people just scan the titles. So good to be specific with what you are asking about.

We have a few people who really know silver and silverplate. Also, your current photo of the markings might be okay, a bit larger would have been better.

As far as forums, I might have put this under "silver", which seems to mostly draw sterling and silverplate. Metal is okay, though.

I wish I could help with the ID, wait for others. Kind of an unusual piece. :)

    Hi, Guy -
I would agree with the William Hutton part, but I don't know about those dates. Where did you find that info?

Just checking... Is this your mark?

I'm curious about those dates too. The primary indicator of which I am aware is Hutton's use of the "crossed arrows" device in addition to the initials, which dates from 1900 on (and I don't see that here.)

Thanks for all the help, I could well be totally wrong. This is all new to me and i'm trying to find and information before relying on you guys, but I could well be totally wrong. I have uploaded a larger scale image of the mark. I read on a site that the mark was .. ice4.jpg and son and according to http://www.silvercollection.it/englawilliamhutton.html that dates it to that time, but I may well have totally misread that so I appreciate any help from the specialists. Thanks

1920s at the very earliest. Those oak and silver plate things are typical of the period, but got made right up to the 60s.
