Very difficult to see the details of the highland cattle painting from your photographs, however the florals are purely decorative and are not by anyone who is listed as an artist.

George someone on cattle work. Popular subject; yours very similar to one below. And agree very likely a print. Flowers decorative as above. And in future, Vicky, would you be kind enough to post photographs with full frames front and back? Really helpful in many ways including dating.

I'm thinking it might be Douglas Cameron and some sort of highland cattle.

Clever you! (And I saw "George!") Douglas Cameron could be right. Here's an oil on canvas of his. Comparing the quality of this work with that OP's, one would certainly think reproduction.

I still see "George" but I could also see a "ug" of the end of Doug, not sure. However, if it is a watercolor and an original, I must point out that the artist's color pallet and subject matter are remarkably similar to the two Douglas Cameron works. At least one of those is not watercolor.

This warrants more photographs without the glass, front and back.

The nails in the back will be very easy to remove and replace with a small needle nose plier and a small hammer. I suggest re-matting while you are at it, with acid-free mat and backing. Any frame shop can recut these pieces for you, if you want to do it yourself. This will help to archive the painting.

Oh, I see it's in different mat board, but where are the photos of it without the glass for details?

I didn't see you'd reframed it when I posted above, photographs were very slow to load, I don't have enough wifi power, or bandwidth, or something technical..

  13. Yes it does look very like douglas maybe a slightly different view mine has no trees

Thanks @Vicky McFadden , I don't have great eyesight, it looks like a watercolor and not a print, but others may want to take a look too, I know I'd like them to see your pictures!

@Debora , @ineedhelp , @blooey , @say_it_slowly can y'all see more detail than I can? The first example posted above also resembles a watercolor, to my eyes. Will love to read your opinions.

There is no information on the internet -- and yes, I know, a source with significant limitations -- that the artist painted in watercolor. A Google Image search might help determine if print.

To my eye, the general tone of the work/overall colour is very reminiscent of light faded offset lithographic ink.

    thanks for checking, Debora

Blooey, I keep coming back to this thought too, but litho offset is also in my background and the way this has faded bothers me too. I was unable to make out any sort of print pattern though the photos are very small in size. The only detail shot is of the sky, which sort of looks like watercolor.

@Vicky McFadden , how thick is the paper, what does the weave of the paper look like? Please photograph close up details so we can see and the back of the paper is important to see too. I bet you can get a better detail of the signature too..

I'm not yet convinced this is not a print and agree with Blooey that the fading makes it look like a print. I will also admit that the other day, I saw a faded old oil painting. Reds tend to fade fastest, your painting is no exception, Vicky.

I would also ask to see a close up of the damage, is there a scratch on it?
