    Hello,

I am after some advice on an item that I found in a family members garage.

It's an old Victorian Art Nouveau cast iron Coal Basket for a fireplace. It has a company name on the back called 'The Gallery'

It's in a bit of a state and a little bit rusty. But is complete with the basket and back plate attached, t- tray for the ash and the draw cover for the tray.

I have included a link to the basket which I found on the internet which is identical.

I just want to know if it's worth anything? Or if it was worth getting it cleaned up?

    Thanks in advance.

Can't help without seeing yours. Condition is going to be a factor and without seeing it, it's impossible to say.

Welcome and I concur with Bev...as will all if not most others.
Photos of all areas that can help those here determine what you have and condition. It also very much matters where you are on the planet so your exact address is not required but city, etc. is.

The one in the link is a reproduction. Yours may be as well. As such, value would be a small fraction of the original price on the secondary market. Condition and whether or not it works will be the determining factor and you have to find a buyer. Usually this type of thing is worth what someone is willing to pay. If yours is an original antique, that brings up more possibilities.

I think one thing always to consider when you're trying to find the value of something is what methods do you have available to dispose/sell items?

I sold an antique, ornate one last winter for $250 on Craigslist. I used black fireplace/heat spray paint to clean it up.
