    Hello..

Does anyone recognize this pattern as no markings.
I've search by image and tried to describe pattern.
    Purchased and told very rare.
    Any help appreciated.
Cup standard size 1.75" high x 3.25" wide at mouth
    Saucer 4.75" diameter
    Beautiful 3d gold gilt.
Thank you for any help :)

    It is quite exquisite.
Is the porcelain translucent in the cup, when held up to the sunlight?
Does the porcelain shine back any particular color?

Why do you think these are Japanese?

Don't get me wrong, it's a very pretty pair. Do you have much experience with that particular dealer? I would have expected at least something Japanesque in the design - especially with no mark.

That shines yellow, because that is not sunlight...
Please let me know later ...
I wonder if it could be Japanese, which is why I asked about the porcelain.
It's obviously not a classic design.

It does look Japanese to me, the handle, bowl shape and glaze on the back of the saucer are in keeping with inter-war Japanese production. They did produce floral sprigged patterns and other Westernised designs like large flower heads at this time.

That said, although any particular 'pattern' may be scarce as countless 1000's were produced and few survived, this type of eggshell porcelain isn't rare nor valuable. The market is very limited and prices are low. In the UK at auction I can buy tea sets including the teapot/sugar/serving pieces (generally with some damaged pieces and incomplete) for under £50.

Dealers' tags are not the most reliable. Japanese egg shell porcelain. For $50 CDN, not too bad as that's less than $10 per cup and saucer. But the value of china has tanked for quite a while now.
