An old friend stopped by and sent me to a Japanese military equipment site. There was pictured an incomplete example with this explanation I got via google translate:

“There is no contents. The firing angle to allow large caliber shells to reach long distances
I think that it included a deviation board for adjusting and installation tools. Shoulder bag
You can carry it with you, and the wooden frame is upholstered with four straps of unknown purpose.
Size: width 280 mm, height 380 mm, thickness 100 mm“

Well anyway the responses above helped me decide to buy this WWii Japanese Artillery “computer.” It is apparently a GI bring back. The GI’s name was I think what is now blacked-out on front of carrying case. One of the few things I still collect energetically are complex artillery slide rules aka mechanical computers, I have a few much larger, heavier German examples and this one field-portable Japanese example. I’ve seen a few partial examples of this Japanese type but this is the only “complete” one I’ve seen. 1D4A2FBD-D6B5-435A-9C49-77D151440A56.jpeg

I do like to see how people use their ingenuity to create devices such as these. As modern technology progresses we are now at a point where all we have to do is point at some location and the computer does all the calculations and adjustments for us now. Cool, but nice not to forget how to do the leg work ourselves.

Unfortunately, I don't have sufficient use for Worthpoint for it to be worth me paying a membership fee. I only ever really wish to know the prices from their website.

Glad I could help as much as I did all the same. :)
