I have this elaborately detailed silver utensil or tool or serving ware. As you can see it's very ornate, with a sharp hook on the end. Looking for any information on its' use and/or period...

Welcome to the Forum, Judy! :)
Next time you post photos, check Full Size. Are there any maker marks?

Welcome, Judy. At that size, since it seems to be right way up when hung by the hook, wonder if it isn't an old bell pull.

    So I did a little ebay search - I think it's a button hook!!

I don't think that's a button hook. Too much going on at the end with the hook (which also doesn't look strong enough to do a button hook's job.) The buttons a button hook is for were on shoes.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Maybe a bell pull, as mentioned... or to pull down a shade or blind?

    And welcome, @Judy Wright !

Could you post some better shots with different angles of the ends?
