Help Whatizit?

It's very disconcerting when there are three, and only three, people in a household and "things" turn up that no one "ever saw before in their life". Any idea what these six little mesh and spiral wire thingies are? Looks like they have been spray-painted gold. The bases are too light to hold up any little figurines or such, I tried it with some Styrofoam elves. They didn't care for it in any case. Thank you!

 

Size? Could they possibly fit in a tea cup to hold and then remove loose tea leaves?

 

2 inches? I can only guess as I have something close to that in my kitchen sink drain to catch the solids and let the water drain.
