I asked about this some time ago and had a bit of discussion with Komo but didn’t have pictures at the time. All help appreciated. I measured the long curve of the blade at 26 inches. I thought of cavalry but wondered about naval with the brass, The blade is very light and tapers all the way to the tip. The similar blades I have found actually increase in width towards the tip. Just have never been able to nail it down. Thanks

Naval hangers (or hangars) are usually relatively short, for use in crowds or condined spaces. Cavalry sabres are for hacking at people on foot from horseback.

Must disagree on the fantasy piece. People in Canada may know the name Moffat..stoves fridges etc. A large number of swords , flintlocks and armour were purchased from the Lord Mayor of Blackpool England during ww2 as T.L. Moffat was running the war plant in England during those years. He moved to Muskoka in 1951. I guess the Lord Mayor could have purchased a fantasy piece..hadn't thought of that.

Lets hope I am wrong, but I have been collecting military stuff since 1973 and what I see doesn't match the construction one would expect to see.
    I am sorry.

I can also add regarding dates, that there is a picture in a Life magazine of a young fellow selling war memorabilia in 1945, and among what he is offering one can see fantasy pieces that even didn't exist during the war....

It does look rather rough to me also, but I'm not a sword expert. I do believe that Holly is correct though. Sword hilts made from this material are commonly referred to as "sharkskin," but are actually made from the skin of stingrays.

    UPDATE
Was driving me crazy so sent the pictures to The Lanes Armoury. They have been in business for 51 years I think. This was their answer
    "
It is an early 19th century light infantry or militia cavalry officer’s sabre.

    British, or American is likely

    Kind regards
