Featured Help with 1908? piece please

    Hi All,

    What are your impressions of this piece? Hobbyist/amateur?

    I think it says Martin’s Chimney Sweep.

    Also, does the frame tell us anything?

    The frame looks 1970s.

    I think done by a very good "hobbyist" artist, but please wait for the opinions, interest of others. Mine is just a guess..

    If done by an amateur, a very good amateur. I like it. I have no expertise in art, but I would say by someone more than just an amateur.

    Watercolor is such a difficult medium to work with. Whoever painted this had a good handle of it. No mud. No overworked passages.

    The frame/matting/backing tells nothing. Agree with antidiem on the date.

    Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

    LOVE the painting, but guessing newer frame & matting!! The back looks like it might have masonite for support maybe???

    It is a very pretty painting. The masonite back looks fine to me for 1970s. Looks framed at home, the tape doesn't necessarily look professionally applied.
