Somebody made this out of the bowl of a spoon and it could be sterling but it could also be silver plated. What was the method of testing?

Pretty sure that's the 1847 Rogers silverplate 'Silver Lace' pattern, introduced in 1968...

The bug was a pin or an earring with the back broken off. Someone got creative.

Is that just a narrower part of the shank, 'cuz they don't look identical, to me, but do look similar........??

It was bought at an estate sale listed as sterling (the spoon). The bug is silver plated

But unfortunately, it is not sterling silver, it is silverplate...

As already said, it's the cut-off and repurposed bowl of a silverplate pattern spoon, with a cute, also repurposed, costume jewelry bug...

That's what I would have said. The pattern was only made in silverplate and that bug was never made in anything but costume form. Anyone selling either as silver was either ignorant or deliberately misleading.

I think it's a cute and unusual thing ... and hope you enjoy wearing it!
