    hi guys

anyone hazard a guess at what decade this tom gilbey top looks from, quite hard to judge

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Gilbey_(designer)

    a mens fashion designer

    inner reverse looks quite faded

60s would be a score, but could be later

    any thoughts appreciated

Maybe 1990s? Could almost have seen Prince wearing this.

Is there a fabric content tag? Sometimes that can help narrow down a date.

Hard to tell from photographs. Can't get a sense of proportions. And it being an ethnic-inspired garment makes it even harder. Colorway and fabric not really 1960s. If I had to guess, I'd think 1990s. Kind of a poor man's alternative to Shanghai Tang's bright-colored silk Chinese jackets. Here's one of his suits in the V&A from the 1970s and the label different so do think later rather than earlier. He was known for his tailoring; don't think this piece a good representation of his work. That would likely mean limited collector appeal if your intention is resale.

A blouse is also a waist-length military jacket (or a jacket inspired by one) not only an item of women's clothing. Gilbey came out of Savile Row.

Interestingly, label was his store sign. (Undated.)

He was at the Sackville Street address from 1967 until the late 1980s. So it's likely the square label dates to that period. He retired around 2000.

    great pic deb, love it

he seems to feminize mens clothing, in all the examples i'm seeing

i bet the etsy jacket and the smoking jacket were a pretty penny

will get a few better snaps when it comes, it wasnt very much but thought it looked interesting enough to buy because of the name

i always find these things look better on a mannequin then slumped on the floor;)
