Featured Help with an old brooch

    Hi all,
I have an old brooch which belonged to my gran, and I'd like to find out a bit more about it, where it was made. I have searched the Internet to find the marks but no luck, aside from a UK silver maker that is CB. That would make sense as I'm in Ireland - but there is a mark beside it that I can't quite make out which might tell me more.

I have created an album with pics, hopefully I've added the images to this post correctly.

Thanks for any hints or tips

Ah, thankyou @shamster I'll look into that one - I do really need a better camera, or magnifying glass. Is it normal for it to be printed upside down in comparison to the CB beside it?

Hmmm, maybe because they are stuck at different times, since one is hallmarked in office and CB stuck by the maker in their studio? So should be fine

I was wondering the same. It is a sweet brooch
I'll see if I can crop and tweak the photo a bit.
It happens. One mark is struck by the maker, the other by the assayer. They don't coordinate their marks.;)

And we have a winner, the Austro-Hungarian "Fuchskopfpunze" (fox's head mark) for .580 gold (just under 14k), assayed in Vienna 1872-1922:

Sweet brooch indeed. Do the choice of gemstones have significance in your family?

If you take a picture further away and then enlarge it after it might not be so blurred

Wow thanks everyone! It's back at home so I'll try a better pic later! That is so interesting.
@Debora I'm not sure about the stones, I wonder did they represent birthstones for a couple as 4 leaf clovers are a good luck symbol.

I love its simplicity, thankyou @Any Jewelry - and have 2 black and gold items of clothing that it goes quite nicely with because it is unassuming. :)
