Hi I bought this at a sale but haven’t been able to find nothing at all. Seems like I have seen this before but I don’t know. It is 22x16 and signed L J Palmer within a shaded garden. What is this art work called when you have to look for a picture inside a picture. The sticker on back says your home inc. and has del. for Delaware I seen they quit using del. in 1963. No dots and pencil signed. Any help would be great! Your Home Inc. started in 1953 and, as you write, the USPS switched from 3-letter state abbreviations to 2-letter at the end of 1963 so that's your window. Certainly looks correct for period.

The style is consistent with the early '60s. I don't know what you mean by "picture inside a picture".

Well it’s like you have to stare at the picture to see other pictures in it, see the person sitting under the tree and you can see other things if you look really hard.

I don't think they are intentionally hidden. The style is a bit clense.

When you do a Google search, don't forget to search under More: Books. Especially helpful when researching old businesses, old addresses, etc.

I love wood block prints. Have you taken it out of the frame?

Thanks Debora I’ll remember that. Laura do you think it could be a woodblock print? I will take it out of frame later on in day and see what’s on the back. Thanks!

I think it is more likely a linocut (carved on linoleum mounted on a block). The flat texture of the black areas is characteristic of that technique. Is it under glass? The surface may appear different when you have it out of the frame.

    It's a punny work. Very '60s.
