    Because of a piece of jewelry I own, I have read a lot on similar beasties and I can tell you that some sphinxes have wings. :woot:

    Decoration looks Assyrian but vase looks more like brass than bronze and fairly recent.

    From the imagery we can see, I think it might be a Greek tourist piece. The mythological Greek sphinx was portrayed with wings:

    The chariot also looks like it could be based on ancient Greek art, as well as the wave forms around the shoulder of the vase.
    I agree with @verybrad that it looks like brass.
