    Hi all
I found these horse medallions recently, but I am trying to properly identify what the pattern is in the middle of the medallions. I looked around and didn't see any exact matches.

Thanks in advance for any help to sort this out as well as any info you can share. Keywords and suggestions welcome. Thanks!

    Horse Brasses.
The first one may be Irish, the Harp is the Irish symbol.

Second one is also Irish Claddagh symbol

Chladaigh is a traditional Irish ring given which represents love, loyalty, and friendship (the hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, and the crown represents loyalty

Unless they're a funny size I'd call them harness brasses or at least as an additional descriptor.

Op you are cheating yourself out of information by omitting pix of other side and the dimensions.

Even without seeing the other side it is 99% sure these are reproduction brasses made in the 1960s to 80s when these werr a fashionable 'olde worlde'decoration for homes and pubs.

I agree, they`ve never been near a horse in a month of Sundays.
I have about 30 from house clearances in my brass scrap bin awaiting the smelters.

I`ve just been to my lock-up so I thought I`d photograph some of the brasses and other items that used to adorn the walls and mantles of dead peoples homes.
All scrap from the brass bin.
I have copper. Lead and aluminium bins too.

    Thanks much!

I doubt I can take pics today, it is a dreary day here on Long Island. Grayish black sky with downpours. When the sun shows itself again, I will snap more pics and add measurements here.

Dave are you going to scrap them or are you saying you saved them. Scraping would be a shame.

I have piles of the horse brasses in the store. They sell constantly at $15.95 each. I don't pay squat for them :) All the repro ones, though I have a box coming in this weekend that might be older. So tell me...how would I know if they're older?

The wear patterns are about the only clue, some repros are given a 'worn smooth' appearance, but they usually do not bother with under the suspension loop at the top where a leather strap would have passed.
If you can find some that really are old, study the wear on them.
When I was selling them on ebay around 2000, 2001 they sold well to the US market. I did try to find and sell only ones that I thought had at least some age and 'horse wear' to them, but I could never be entirely sure.

Yes I`m scrapping them, can`t sell them here I`ve tried.
They were all attached to leather horse straps for hanging in houses not on horses.
