Help with ID of this Indian chief and the painter

    Nice painting and nice subject. Although he is sinking a bit, the painter should have placed him higher on he canvas. Maybe that's just me.
    Pity about the damage, but it can be repaired.

    The beading pattern on the gauntlet cuffs is familiar, just can't think who-what-where. The morning star pattern, those little crosses, is pretty generic, as is the triangular pattern on the band of the bonnet.
    The combination of that white elkskin with sky-blue beading is a favourite of the Ute. My favourite too btw. Not saying this gentleman is Ute, but he could be.
    The style of the shirt is not old, but that's ok, the painting is not pretending to be old.
    Blue is also the colour of wisdom and intuition among Plains NA. That, along with what looks like a turtle pattern on the fan, could mean your chief is a spiritual leader/Holy Man. Fans usually signify spirituality as well as dignity.

    they are very smooth to the touch. Would you say they were one by hand or printed by machine Bev aka?
