Featured Help with identification of vase.

A small vase was found in the Lattakia region, Syria. Could someone identify the artifact?

 

Is it glass? The hope would be Roman, but I surely would not know.

 

Welcome, Mennan. Have you done any looking around at museum holdings of glass antiquities? This looks like a flask for perfume or some kind of unguent.

When you say 'found', is that found in a shop or found in the ground? If it's from a dig, were you the digger?

How in the world do those slender applied handles survive the millennia?!

 

I did NOT work out the size differences in the two different images (OP's & @Komo's), BUT they sure LOOK LIKE 'same vintage' ....and with the Patterns on each SO SIMILAR!!!!

It is beautiful, and Syria has an ancient tradition of making amazing glass. Unfortunately this Phoenician style core glass is faked a lot, and there are also honest replicas, which makes it difficult for us to authenticate your flask from a mere photo.

There used to be a very good site that knew all about identifying fake core glass, but I just saw it was down. So instead I would advise you to find a specialised museum or university department to authenticate it.

Agree. Although replicas sometimes end up being sold as antique.

 

I agree it does not appear ancient... which might be good in the sense of problematic a Syrian antiquity could be without paperwork

 

If it’s a fake, it’s a very good one.
