A family estate contained a box with about 30 lbs. of stamp books, thousands of loose cancelled and new/old stamps, and first-day covers. I’m helping the executor by liquidating this. Not sure where to start, I looked on EBay and it seems most first-day covers are worth very little. Most of these go back to 1930’s. Suggestions? Pix of samples coming. https://www.flickr.com/photos/189102681@N07/shares/T5cxB9

Most likely very little value and a hard sale. Anything uncanceled that was made for postal use will sell in bulk at 60% or so of face value.

Sometimes FDCs can be signed by the person featured on them.

Thanks, I’ve posted link to photos but don’t think it’ll help any. Wonder if I can still use the old, uncancelled us stamps at face value for postage?

Yes, you can use pretty much any uncanceled official usps issued stamp as postage still.

The first flights, naval ships, and older sports related ones you might find some value in. Probably in the 5$-$15 range.

My father collected stamps most of his life and found out that the value was not there. He started using the unused stamps for regular mail. He was so disappointed. My brother has what is left of the collection.

Regarding the items in your original post, there are some US specialty areas that might bring a little more than the routine low prices for stamp related items. Examples would be Panama Canal Zone, and Phillipines (when under US control), and for late 1800's, Hawaii and Cuba.

Thanks, still sorting this collection in spare time. There are 50 or more first-day covers cancelled on USN ships and subs in 1930’s, and a similar number done on USS Constitution during her long cruise around US in 1930’s. Those have various large decorative rubber stampings reflecting ports visited, etc.

Since there are hundreds of First Flight covers like

I need to figure out what makes some valuable, say over $10. One way I guess would be to put them up for online auction at a relatively low starting price and just see where it goes. U see any problem with that? If not, then start at 99 cents, $1.99, $4.99, ?

I’m thinking since I want to move these fast with as little effort as possible I should sell them in groups of FFC’s that would all be attractive to one buyer, so I need to figure out what common trait they’d be watching for, is it geographic or what?
