    Hi Folks,

Picked this piece up the other day out of a dollar box at the local flea market.
Was wondering if anyone could help with who the maker is and what the stones are. I think some may be coral , but pretty much a guess on my part. Does anything about the piece give a clue as to the age? There is a braided wire connecting it all.
    Thanks for any help.
    Kevin.

It's a relatively recent clasp. Can you make out the number before the "25"?

Since the beads are on a wire, my hunch is the beads are stone and not glass. Some of the beads may be carnelian.

925 makes sense, but it almost looks like a "4" rather than a "9" to me.

The beads all look like stone to me & fall within the color range of carnelian - sard & red jasper. Bottom line is quartz.

This composition is pretty tame. Some of the ancient ones are pretty steamy. Then there's Europa:

The Ancients must have had a fascination with bestiality....

He's a swan for Leda, a bull for Europa, a shower of gold that falls into the lap of Danae even though she's locked in a tower. Callisto was one of the chaste followers of the Artemis. Zeus gets at her by taking on the likeness of the goddess. Now & then I see porcelain miniatures of the seduction of Callisto.

The presence of Cupid in the scene is the tip off that they're not being just friendly.

There was a phrase in a book from the 1950s that meant something different to the author, but got taken up by the public as expressing the Greek attitude: polymorphously perverse.
