Hello everyone - I could use a little help figuring out the mark on this plate. It measures 6 1/2" across. I searched the Gotheborg site and found the top left character is associated with Nikko but kind of ran into a wall after that. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Three of the characters are 九合 光 Which is Kutani and then Ki but for some reason I'm struggling on the last one.

Thank you Ce BCA. It's very helpful just to know it's Kutani.

It is Akae style Kutani, The mark should give the location, i.e a city or town province. I just can't think what it might be, maybe Miyamoto.

These are the style of Kutani, Each named after a master.

Iidaya was the master craftsman, Iidaya Hachiroemon who introduced this style in 1830.

Thank you so much Francisco G Kempton. Your posts are always so interesting and the items you picture are always beautiful. I allow myself to be intimidated, I think, by the complexity of the Japanese styles. The youtube above is very helpful.

:shame: ooh Thank You dgbjwc, That is very kind. I wish I could help find the backmark, I update when if i am lucky to come across it. Between the different styles, the different kilns, artists and time era's it is complex. Most modern 21st century Kutani is in the Yoshidaya style or Ao kutani with green, dark blue, yellow, purple and red colours.
