Help with Mark on Knife

    Hi All, this belongs to a friend, we are trying to figure out the mark but I'm coming up with nothing. Hoping someone here will know.
    Looks like there might be a mark on the ferrule/collar (looks like a registration mark) and the end of the handle but I haven't heard back from her to say yes or no.
    any information appreciated

    It has the mark dating it to circa 1854-1883 on the handle where it attaches to the blade. My guess is it's silverplate since those aren't British hallmarks and other mark was only used in the UK.
