A picker friend of mine sold me this painting for $20 today because it has a small tear.
I like it but can make no sense of the signature.
Any thoughts on it? This isn't a factory painting is it?
    Thanks for any help!

1950s from the pickled frame. I would think it's a decorative painting from the era.

Wood that has been stained with a white stain that doesn't hide the wood's grain is often called "pickled".

If I had an extra finger I’d want it on my left hand.

Siggy looks like R. Ferrau to me, an Italian name, which makse sense with the Italian style of the painting and with the mandolin, a popular instrument in Italy.

Mandolins generally have 8 strings, but, of course this would matter little to a painter who forgets that hands generally only have 5 fingers.

This one doesn't even have strings, only keys. Which is probably why the man is looking a bit puzzled. That, along with the finger issue, of course.

I guess the artist was too embarrassed by his work to sign legibly.
