Hello Everyone - My sister-in-law inherited this rice bowl but I don't have enough experience to tell her much about it beyond that I think it's an Imari color palette. The bowl measures about 2 1/2" tall and 5 3/4" across. No markings on the bottom. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance. Don

It's old, for certain. It may have already been old when it was repaired.

I just love repairs...an' especially when they're stapled, without penetration through to the interior. That's a fine piece of work, an' no foolin'! When the repair was needed, the family may not have had another to sub for the broken bowl...an' probably was without the skill an' material to effect the fix themselves. But someone in the village was known for that talent...an' now, perhaps 75-150 years on, here it is, fully functional after all that time. I'm sure someone was extra careful with your bowl, post-repair! What a find...YAY!

Yes, it is. Looks like Chinese Imari, rather than Japanese. And 18th century imo.
Love the staple repair, so delicately done.

Id agree with the Chinese imari. That red criss cross pattern inside the rim suggests it.

Love the branches and leaves in third photo. Delicately done.

That one is speaking to me. I don't know what it says, because I think it's speaking Chinese. :D No really, I think it's quite lovely and if AJ says 18th c, I defer to her as she knows much more than I about things Asian.
