I can't read it but I love the second one.
The first . . . not so much - like, not at all. :)

Here are both of the signatures next to each other if that can help a bit.
First name starts with V or N maybe. Totally lost on the second one. Maybe Alst.....

I don't think the signature matches.

& I'll side with Messi , & say the 2nd one looks like a work of art, while the 1st.....
has no redeeming qualities what so ever.............

Let's not be so harsh. It looks like someone was learning how to clean off their brushes while also practicing their signature. Of tremendous educational value!

anyways, confirmed by John Alstine that is not his. Maybe the siggy reads something different.

Found another smaller piece with info on the back.
They are monotypes by Cyle Van Alstine, Millboro, VA.
Not finding any info about the artist on google. There are some paintings for sale by artist with the same name but completely different style.
    Renaissance impressionist?

I think you're on to something there. The signature is remarkable similar - especially the way the V and a are done. I have no idea what to make of "Renaissance Impressionist."

so, he was a kind of commercial artist but I guess not very successful if there is no info about him on the net.

It's such an unusual name I figured I would try searching on Ancestry. There is a telephone directory listing there for him in Millboro in the early 1990's, but there is also this Find-A-Grave record - born 1934 in Indiana, died 1996 and buried in Wauconda, Illinois. Unfortunately there's no biographical info attached.

Second looks like cattails in a blizzard. Of course, I have blizzards on the brain right now.
First one looks like a mill on a pond.
