Marimekko is a well known Finnish clothing brand (at least here in NW Europe). They design their own fabrics, which is why the name is printed on the side. They also design items for interior decorating.
This is one of their Modernist designs, a style they are famous for.

Looks like a piece of fabric that someone has mounted. Perhaps to use as wall art.

Does it say anything before "Marimekko" or to the right of the date?

Company is still in business, by the way.

Very well known in the US too! At least for women of a certain generation. ;)

It was quite the decorating rage when I first had an apartment. We bought wood stretcher bars at the art supply store and stapled the fabric onto them. They were lightweight, colorful and cheap and covered ugly walls nicely. There were a few shops in the Boston/Cambridge area where you could buy Marimekko fabric panels. Most of my friends decorated with them.

    Hi,
They were very popular in the 1960s/70s. i had a lot of friends who had them hanging on their apartment walls.
