    Hi,
This isn't mine, trying to help someone figure this out.
Beautiful decanter with silver rim - has the silver purity hallmark (pentagram or 5 point star) of .915 from Spain, the other mark is a standing lion facing right - does anyone know that mark?
    thanks for looking.
    Mary

lol desperate - yes, I'm asking about this for Sean. Hoping if the silver maker is known, maybe it will lead to who made the glass.

Generally the silver was applied by another company other than the glass manufacturer. And not always in the same country.

Thanks bakers! When I was looking I saw the Towle mark but discounted it as I thought the shape at the top was too rounded, but I have been wrong before!
If it is Towle, why would there be the Spain Hallmark in place?

Many American makers (although more often silverplate than sterling) set up production arrangements in Spain and Italy in the late 20th century. Probably because labor was cheaper there.

No guarantees that Towle actually marked this, but it was the only thing I could think of.
