    This little case is 3 1/4" x 3 3/4" x 1/2".
Some type of plastic covered metal.
Has a spring-loaded hinge. Has some damage to the plastic on two corners.
I was hoping to find out first how old it is, then that type of plastic? and what are any thoughts on this pattern. Thanks as always for any information.

That tavern scene was widely used on toffee tins. Likely the same age. 1920s-1930s maybe. The pattern is faux burled wood. Sure someone can identify which one.

    Appreciated @Debora
Earlier than I had thought and wood makes sense.

Could be as late as the 1950s, I suppose. The work is 'Halt at an Inn' by the French artist Meissonier. 1862-1863. It's in the Wallace Collection.

That said... It's stamped "Germany" so more likely pre-World War II.
