Featured Help with symbol

I believe these are little sealing wax blocks meant to be melted to seal letter/documents. Not sure why the yellow one says danger? Poisonous dye? Or part of design?

I assume the box is original. Thought it may have been a match box originally but it says “color” so makes sense it’s original. Anyone know the symbol on the box by any chance?

 

I'd guess it was added by whoever owned the box.

Do you think it might say oanger for the color ?

 

One of the reasons this site is so great. It never would have occurred to me but certainly possible I suppose.

 

The monogram are the letters T S E A.
The order is unknown to me.

The yellow block says Danger on the right and the purple block says Sans on the left ...
Sans Danger = Safe

The yellow cake has D'OR on it, French for 'of gold'. What are the 2 letters of the word before? These seem to be pigments for something.

 

Maybe the A & S are for Alberto Simonetti.

 

Could they be cakes of ink for mixing with water?

It’s moments like this that you wish you had bothered to add 2 and 2. Sans Danger! I didn’t see the S hiding in there. Looks right!

 

Almost looks like it could say ”fire”. Looks like four letter with two that are too worn to see.

 

My first impressions was with Bronwen ink sticks used to make calligraphy inks. They are rubbed on a slopping stone dish. Looks like the one was used. Sealing wax sticks would be half the thin to put over the flame.

 

I, too, was thinking of watercolor paint blocks... and found this:

 

There's dealer in UK who specializes in antique watercolor sets,oil paints,brushes,easels,pastels,etc.I recall he had some 19th Century Windsor & Newton Boxed Sets .

 

What do you mean by this?

There are several traditional yellow pigments that were compounds containing lead, (as well as cadmium, chrome, antimony et al.). Hence the warning label.

It was mentioned maybe the owner applied the symbol/monogram to the box. At least two generations of the family whose estate this came out of were artistically gifted.
