Hi, I'm wondering what these items are and possibly their age/maker. The larger one is, I think, a powder box. It's 10cm across and 4cm high and appears to be hand painted. It has no makers mark but does have what I thought would be a pattern number (6304) inside the lid- which gets me nothing in a google search. The closest things I could see online were Dresden and Limoges. The second is smaller 6.5cm x 3cm and I thought maybe a patch pot, but not sure. The painting and gilding is quite worn. Thanks in advance for your comments.

I have never heard of the term "patch pot" and when I google it i get lots of marijuana patches! sounds like the larger one could have been a powder dish . May be the smaller one is for rouge . They also had tooth powder dishes but those seem to have advertisements on them.

Try patch box rather than patch pot. They were used for facial patches to cover smallpox scars.

Never heard of them . Now once again I am off to research and see what these look like . Thank you OwnedBear and Dory for adding to my meager knowledge.

I was going to say trinket box. I never heard that term either about patch pot.

Thanks guys - I just googled antique porcelain patch pot and found one on EBay (described as Antique Victorian Staffordshire - Large PATCH POT or DRESSING TABLE BEAUTY JAR), exactly the same pot but with different painting. Rouge pots also came up and due to the inside shape of the pot it seemed likely, but I guess if you were chasing a patch around pot with your finger the shaped interior would be helpful. I guess they would be a similar age, as you'd be powdering your wig and applying patches to your scars?

Rouge would be the coloued facial cosmetic and was smaller pots. Wig powder larger pots, patch pots middling. I think your little one would be rouge.
