I found this yesterday at my regular thrift store. It is not the norm for me (im usually drawn to factory paintings I thought was a lost master!), but it had such a cool look- each square was like a little painting. And ut felt so soft, I'm sure it's made with silk!
Any help with what I have - and if I did a good job this time (I paid $100!) ?
1 thing I noticed is the back of it is pretty sharp looking too!
    Also, it measures 6, 6" x 4' 3" - is that a carpet or a rug?
    Thank you for any information!
PS - some pics are in direct sun & some in shade.

Persian rugs were and are made of both silk and wool. Kashan, Qum, there's a whole slew of types. The design tells what region and/or style and I never learned enough to recognize them. Hubs bought us a few at sales many years ago, 1 is at my bedside still. Persian rugs have been made for centuries. Silk rugs are thinner and more dense than wool. Since the fringe is not added on I would say it is not a modern, machine-made piece but that's just my guess. I do know that they were sometimes made with both silk and wool. There are online resources that will help identify where it was made and what the quality is. The wear at the edges will bring the value down but there doesn't appear to be a lot of wear and no stains to the bulk of it so you might have a winner! Good luck with it!

    Very nice find, journey.
Kashmir is in the border region of India and Pakistan, so one part in India and one part in Pakistan. India and Pakistan are also rug making countries.

Looks right to me. Can't tell if silk or wool from the photos but a good buy either way. Most modern such rugs I have seen here in the US have been made in Pakistan.

I thought it was old for some reason? Wishful thinking?
    How do you tell?

u need a rug expert to opine on age........... but to me , it's anything but new !

my silk rugs, although Chinese.... mat in the same way your corner photo shows.... from use , they just kinda flatten out....
So, I'd say , at least, it has a silk weft ....
The damage will cut the value......
