Appreciate any help anyone can offer with this print. I cannot decipher the title or the signature. My gut feeling is mid century and it was framed by an extremely well known and expensive framer in my town. Thanks for taking the time to try and help! I'm new and hope I can figure out the picture posting!

I probably should not have said "Mid Centruy". More 60s/70s?

Title is Moon something and the last name of the artist is Smith. ( :( )

Thanks so much for the "Smith". Still can't even see that but it gives me something to start researching. Could it have been any tougher and now I probably have the most common name in the world to research LOL. I did get the "moon" but if someone can get the next word I may have a shot. I already tried GoogleImage and just got a whole bunch of "yellow". Here's hoping someone else may be able to decipher more and thanks so much Kentworld. The piece may well prove to be just another "unknown" artist but between really thinking it's a very well done print and knowing that it was framed by the best known art framer in my area is just fueling my curiosity although I do know that someone with a ton of money could have just had it framed by an art framer because they could.

The pictures are fairly poor, could you redo them in adequate natural light?

Anything with flash burn really needs discarding and redoing.

It does say "Artists Proof". That's all I can make out.

Thanks, I do know it's an AP and I will try and take better pictures outside in natural light later today as I'm off for a class in a few minutes. And here I was was relatively proud of those first pictures as I had no idea what I was doing and at least I got them up LOL. You are all terrific and I'm appreciative of the help and so glad that I found this board. I realize I may never identify this print but I like it so it doesn't really matter but the quality coupled with this over the top framing job by a framer who is known for framing blue chip pieces has me curious. I have another print that I could never identify until I saw it in a museum show. I bought it for nothing because I loved it but knew it was probably signed on the back and since it was also in a very expensive frame which I liked I didn't want to take it apart. It's been hanging in my guest room and I look at it every day but really got off when I discovered who the artist was. Don't think it's the same thing here but I'd sure like to find out.

Let me know if these are any better and again, many thanks for the help! Shot outside, no flash. Couldn't load them but finally figured out I needed to resize.

Me neither and it's making me crazy. Here's another picture of the signature.

Maybe "Tijuana" after "Moon"? The first name looks like it could be something like "Allee" or "Alee."

Thanks Pat. I guess it could be but I can't see it. I've googled til I'm blue. I emailed the framer but that's such a longshot that anyone is still around from when the piece was framed and would even remember it. I think my best shot is that someone could recognize the artist. Man, that artist could have been a physician. This has got to be one of the most difficult signatures I've ever seen.

Framer was very nice but said that he couldn't help. Got back to me immediately. I'm out of ideas.

I really want that word after Moon to be "tiger" but I can't really make it fit!

That is hysterical-great minds think alike. I tried that too! I guess I give up but if anyone posts I'll certainly check back in. This one is really bugging me.

I tried everything I can think of and even sent an image to a friend who's a dealer of MCM art. Thanks to all who tried to help. I wouldn't have been quite so obsessed had the print not been in a give or take $500 frame.

This may be a long shot, but I wonder if the print was inspired by this Middle East poem...

    http://arabkitsch.com/directory/tizan-the-maid-of-hindostan

    TIZAN

    Far away, 'neath eastern skies,
    Shine two eyes, starry eyes!
They belong to one I prize,
    Little maid Tizan.
When the moon comes out at night,
    Shining bright, with delight,
Then in dreams my heart takes flight,
    Far off to Hindostan.

    CHORUS:
    Tizan, my maid of Hindostan,
    Sunbeam of eastern skies!
I mean to steal you, if I can,
    Dark-eyed maid of Hindostan.

    To a little bungalow
That I know, there we'll go,
Hearts and eyes with love aglow,
    I and my Tizan.
What care we tho' tigers roar
    At our door evermore,
We'll love as none loved before,
    In sunny Hindostan.
