Help with wood carving

I’m guessing this is African seems to be a very old repair at the mouth. Carving of a fish with what seems to be men in canoes and working inside. Any information on this is appreciated

 

Pretty sure it is African, as you have suggested. Probably made for sale as a tourist/decorative item, which makes it more difficult to identify as it is not a traditional form. My guess would be West Africa, possibly Nigeria, where there is a tradition of relief carving on panel doors. I think the people carved inside the fish may be fishing in long narrow boats, with nets and possibly calabashes to receive the catch, like these men on the Nigerian coast near Lagos:

 

Thanks for the reply I can see some discoloration along the bottom edge and looks to have some wear. I do agree with African but the old repairs would not make me think tourists. I almost see this had a use for something. Or maybe it was a door piece repaired then sold for tourists like you suggested I do believe by the look of repairs it does have considerable age. There is also a cut at mouth like for liquid to run

 

I mentioned the door panels only as an example of the technique of relief carving somewhat similar to what is used on your fish (as opposed to a three dimensional carving). I don't think yours was part of a door. Here is an example:
