    Dimensions might change my opinion, but it sure looks like an inkwell holder part of a desk set. (Missing the glass inserts for the 2 wells.)

    Are there any maker's marks on the bottom or anywhere on the piece?

    P.S. - Your pictures are so tiny! :peeking: Not much bigger than a postage stamp.

    Hi,
    I call it an ink stand since it has the well and pen holder.

    I'd get some mineral oil on that too; it'll look even nicer cleaned up a bit. That's a Victorian cast iron inkwell, and probably not a copy. From what I can see the casting looks too good. ..of course we can't see that much....

    I got one just like that, but shiny, I was told it was a reproduction, no markings underneath.... but maybe you got the original...;)
