A guy in the pub found this among his grandfathers belongings and asked me to research it for him.
Its a Heuer Swiss made movement pre TAG days, the case is appears to be steel but does not attract a magnet so it could be nickel or nickel plated brass, it is in very good condition and works perfectly, it has 3 hands.
It has a Nazi Swastika with an "M" underneath on the back of the case.
    "KM" & "M" denotes Navy.
I can`t find another like it.
    U-Boat Commander, Kriegsmarine, ?

I found this, that has a slide instead of a button:

The description has some interesting information that may prove helpful.

This is a different watch, but it has the same mark on the back.

The few references I've come across suggest this type of watch is for sports events. I guess the insignia gives it an "official" status. Who knows, maybe it's from the '36 Olympics?

As a Navy watch, it was most likely used in taking celestial sightings. The navigator's assistant starts the stopwatch when the chronometer in the chart house hits an even minute. Then he's able to write down the exact second the navigator measures the altitude of a given celestial body. The altitude and time plus detailed tables of numbers produce a line of position for each body. Many sightings are taken around the horizon and where they all cross when plotted on a chart is the ship's position. Beenthere, donethat.

My favorite book in the genre created by the late Tom Clancy. :(
RIP and thank you for all and especially signing my first edition HFRO and the next two! :)

Recently watched U-571, K-19 and another similar as well as Crimson Tide of which I also scored a jacket I assume was for the movie crew. :)
Forgot to say my youngest son is a submarine veteran. :)

    Ha!
    Certainly not a sub.
That is an odd ship indeed. Looks like a warship but it's had the center upper deck blown out of it. :p

Thats what I thought and the reason I typed "U-Boat Commander" in my OP.
Today I showed it to my Dad and he thinks it was to time torpedo`s too.
BTW a U-Boat crew surfaced and surrendered to my Dads ship off the coast of Canada on the last day of the war.

I saw that but thought you were asking.
Good for him! Thanks for his service and did he get anything from it?

No he never got any war booty from it, but earlier on in the war they rescued US navy guys from a sinking ship and he got a shed load off it before it sank.
When I was a kid I could never understand why I had a blue striped cream US Navy blanket on my bed,one of them real itchy ones too:D.
Lots of cutlery and also library books from NYC too.

Ah! Still have any of that?
Those blankets never bothered me. I liked them. I don't know anyone who likes them but me.

I`ve just had this message from a new member based in Austria.
He sent it via messages rather than post here.

    Hello Dave,

Maybe I can help you with more information about your Heuer timer.
Because of the three hands this watch is called Semikrograph.
The German eagle on the back is an original one.
The "M" underneath stands for "Marine" (Navy.)
This one is a Kriegsmarine torpedo timer.

I am specialized in collecting Kriegsmarine stopwatches from WW2.
You have a very nice example there, still looking for such a watch...

    Regards, Florian
