Featured Hi all! Rocking chair...just curious about it xx

Hello everyone xx

Mr. Bou works in an old folks home and he sometimes brings back stuff that's about to be thrown out.
He knows I am a not throw anything out kinda girl so he brought this back for me. It's perfect,and I love it, just curious if anyone knows anything about it.
The owner said it had been reupholstered at one time. (Wish they'd chosen better fabric if this is so!)

The rocking bit is hidden, I can't see any name or writing on it anywere.

1920s/1930s ish and seriously good quality. Might be someone like E Gomme. Arms look like beech. Well worth recovering.

The owner says it was one of a pair,and they still have the other ( hope they don't throw that one out as well :O )

This was at the old folks home,and the owner died. The family didn't want to go to the trouble/expense of taking it back home so they threw it onto the lawn ready to be picked up by the rubbish men,when Mr. Bou's well trained eye ( he must listen to me sometimes then?) spotted it and brought it home for me. It was upside down when he saw it.

I tried to look for similiar ones on google but couldn't think of search terms...could see loads of rocking chairs but not one which had the rocky bit not showing? ​

 

BoudiccaJones, I "think" this is what was (and perhaps still is) called a "platform rocker" -- that may help you in finding other rockers like yours.

I think they are keeping the other one as it's at their real home,I hope so anyway I do not have room! BUT if it is going to be thrown out I shall find the room somehow xx

Ohhh...is E.Gomme G. Plan? Just seen a few chairs that look similiar to mine...learned something new today too xxx

 

Yup, E Gomme was pre war, then went on to produce G Plan post war. My parents had E Gomme chairs, with similar wire twist spring supports to yours.

 

A very nice piece for a "throw away."
