Pictures of the back of the frame especial of a corner will help in trying to date this frame. Here is an identical frame by Giles Dominic Art Products, the framer. Soooo I suspect the frame is not old, a reproduction.

As you didn't ask about the artist, I suspect you know about William Ernest Chapman (1858-1947). If not here is a little bio on him.

It seems the Giles Dominic Art Product, Ltd. was incorporated in 1980s, but it is now dissolved.

Due to the wording of the label, I suspect the painting and the frame were made together. Here in the U.S. I used to see ads in the newspaper for "starving artist" sales of paintings, often held at hotels or other meeting places.

The Giles Dominic company was in England. I wonder whether this was created to be sold with others at a big sale, or perhaps were sold by the Dominic company in a shop?

 

Hi I have a Giles Dominic painted in gold frame, the artest name is Ferdinand. Any help on this one please.

This is a decorative painting in a modern frame done in an older style. W. Chapman is not going to have any relationship to William Ernest Chapman whose work is below and who died in 1947 well before Giles Dominic existed as a supplier of art for fireplaces and radiators.

Oh, was this her item? I didn't realize-- Was it in the Gallery? I need to check there more often, if so.
