We frequently have people inquiring here about their hobbyist-painted items, do you have any?
I'm showing off a petite berry bowl set I purchased in 2004 from a little antique shop in the wilds of mid-Michigan. Trudy was kind enough to sign her work, I just wish she had dated it, too! I love how each little set of strawberries on each item is unique.
The large bowl is 6 inches/15 cm in diameter and the small bowls are 3.25 inches/8.5 cm in diameter.
I'm presuming it's mid-20th century but if anyone has a better guess, do let me know. :)
(EDIT: I'm just now noticing that "Trudy" on the paper label looks very like the siggie on the bottom of the bowl! I wonder if this is a little later than mid-20th...? I love it, nonetheless! I do recall when I purchased it that the store clerk said Trudy had been a local woman and she'd passed away "some time ago".)

People still did it occasionally into the 50s and 60s, so it's possible.

I would have thought, based on the mold and decoration, that it's a little earlier than mid-century. Also berry sets weren't terribly popular after the 1920's. It's very difficult to date hobbyist pieces. Part of the problem is you can hold the blanks for decades before you get around to painting them. This is a bit better painted than most of the pieces I see. I do have some hobbyist pieces myself around here somewhere. Mostly on Haviland or other Limoges blanks.

Here's one of my favorites - Tressemanes and Vogt blank. Please forgive the dust!

It took me a while to realise that this is probably a hobbyist job. Even the name on the back is well presented.

These are old pictures so they are small, but it's a sweet small pitcher with an unusual hobbyist panted decoration :)

I saw two plates today that I almost bought. They were hand-painted and the designs were Deco. This work was still going on for quite a while.
