Horse head military? Badge information

Please does anyone know anything about this horses head?
I’ve scoured the internet expecting to find others but as yet I haven’t. So maybe I haven’t got the right search terms? About 2 inches high and heavy.

It's an armorial and a cap badge by the look of it. Some regiment or other, I'll go look. Older, given how well made it is.

 

I thought cap badge but it's quite heavy at 23.8g. Feels and looks like bronze.

 

Note, in the picture I've uploaded the horizontal bar is identical to the horizontal bar in your piece.

Headdress makes sense, and it ought to be a cavalry regiment. I've a feeling the bars are always that shape, regardless of regiment, but don't quote me on that.

Hi did you ever identify this? I found a badge with a matching horse head, brass with lead filled back and iron loops. I found your thread whilst researching the badge / brooch. I believe my brooch is what was worn on the shoulder holding a tartan. The horse head matches that of the Irish clan of O’Grady and their original coat of arms had the exact horse head on the top. Thoughts? Regards Michael
