As the heading goes, how do you remove stains from bakelite?
Some pictures below to help understand by what i mean as stains.

Some googling showed that it could be done with a buffing wheel. I do not have a buffing wheel at home.

I am also a little scared to use brasso on a white bakelite. Though this is more off white or light cream.

You can see the yellow lines. which are the stains.

This one from a different angle,, you can see the yellow stain rings.

Happy for any guidance. and ideas

I would try the brasso - put some on a q-tip and try a small area first - brasso is just tripoli buffing compound in a solution, shouldn't harm the bakelite.

not knowing what kind of bakelite it is, I'd try WD40 or a rifle oil on a small spot. or a silver cloth.

It's Urea Formaldehyde plastic according to the website INH posted ..brasso should be fine if the stains are just on the outside:pigeon:

If the stains have soaked through from inside you are out of luck I'm afraid.

(mmmm.....maybe urea formaldehyde plastic IS "bakelite"):jimlad::jimlad::lock:

    The inside is clean.
I think the stains are from trying to polish the silver. Do you think thats possible? reside of silver polish?

Do a test on a small area with some brasso on a q-tip and see if they come off. if it is surface stain you should be ok, if the material has discoloured, deeply, not so much!

if it was that easy. bakelite was sold by many different companies with as many different compositions.
and warning, although it's Urea, you can't fix it by peeing over it. ;)

I'd have a gentle go with a small piece of Magic Eraser. Test area first.
