I noticed one strand is broken and missing 5 white beads. How does none tell the tribe, if it is a genuine Native American piece, or the tribe, or the age? A lot to ask I know. I do not have any other Native American pieces that I can remember so maybe just answers about this one, although I am interested in general. 1 1/8" by 2 3/4" across Thank you.

I don't know but something about it reminded me of an African beaded club I had once so I did look at African bracelets. There are some that appear similar in pattern such as some Maasai. Someone who is better informed will hopefully be along.

I'm not a bead person, but it is important to know (as SIS indicates) that many beaded items come from Africa; and in my limited experience, the beading on the inside is not common in Native American/Canadian items, but I have seen it in African items.

Doesn't look like any NA item I've seen before.

It can be difficult to determine age, tribe, etc., because thread and beads are common material, and design styles can be copied, or be common to different parts of the world.

I'd agree, it's not Native American, based on the beading technique itself, plus the color and size of the beads, and the design patterns.

I'd add, that not only are African beaded items often mistaken for Native American by those who think any beaded item is likely Native American, but the Chinese have been making copies of authentic Native American beaded items, especially in the "jewelry" categories.

I agree that it looks African - either East Africa (Kenya), or South African. It might be helpful to know what it is beaded on - leather, or something else; if leather, what does it look like? (what color, smooth or suede texture?).

It appears to be suede texture leather but it is very tightly woven and I am afraid of moving the one broken piece, as it has age to it. Thank you all.
