Heavy solid brass candle extinguisher. The handle can be taken off.

    Age?

I would suspect fairly modern and for use in a church.

    Hi,
I concur. Although the ones in the restored church in Brooklyn were 6' long. It had an adjustable wick to light the candles also. It used to be part of the service to light them just before service. It had to stop since there were too many "accidents" like dripping wax on the fair linens.

Shucks! I used to love to watch that Especially since I made my first Communion in a church with the most beautiful altar I have ever seen to this day!
